Solving Tournaments Problem Database (STPDB) by Luc Palmans fully integrated into Solving Tournament Manager (STM)

Please note that the “Solving Tournaments Problem Database (STPDB)” is fully integrated into the Solving Tournament Manager tool of WFCC. On the top of the STPDB database the STM tool contains problems from all tournaments entered into STM as of October 2015 and all others which Luc Palmans previously has entered into STPDB. At the moment this database contains about 12,000 problems and it’s constantly growing as new tournaments are added. So the validation if selected tournament problems are used before for solving tournaments should be done by using the STM tool. For more information see here. (Roland Ott, Solving Committee)

World Solving Cup 2021/2022

The next cycle of the World Solving Cup will start right after the Rhodes congress with Roland Ott as Director and Marek Kolčák and Axel Steinbrink as Assistant Directors. Participating countries can register for the WSC 2021/2022 by sending an email to roland.ott@gmx.ch by specifying Country, expected Date (as exactly as possible), Place and Type of the tournament.

Although the final deadline for registrations will be only 1 month after the WCCC interested countries are encouraged to register as of now to help avoiding more than one WSC tournament at the same weekend.

As before tournaments counting for the WSC have to be announced with an invitation to be sent to the WSC Director at least two months before the tournament starts.

Cancellation of WSC 2020-21 cycle

As most of the scheduled solving tournaments have been canceled or postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Presidium agreed with the solving committee’s suggestion to cancel the current 2020-21 cycle of the World Solving Cup and only restart a new cycle after the next congress or after a new proposal is made to start one again. There has not been a single event in the current cycle, so we are of the opinion this is a good (though sad) moment for the cancellation as no solvers with WSC points will be affected.

World Solving Cup 2019/2020 – Winner Aleksey Popov

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic only 10 solving tournaments could be organised although the time range for WSC events of this cycle has been extended until the end of the year 2020.
Aleksey Popov (RUS) is the winner of the WSC cycle 2019/2020 with 86 points gained in 4 tournaments.
2nd is Piotr Murdzia (POL) with 62 points and a performance rating of 2759 for the two events which he has attended.
Martynas Limontas (LTU) as 3rd also achieved 62 points – but with a performance rating of only 2526 of the 5 tournaments which he has participated.

World Solving Cup 2019/2020 – current cycle extended until year-end

Due to the Corona pandemic all WSC tournaments since March 2020 had to be cancelled or postponed. To enable those countries to have a WSC tournament in the current cycle the WFCC Solving Committee has decided the following one-time rule change which is also supported by the members of the WFCC presidium:

  • The cycle 2019/2020 will be extended to the end of the year 2020
  • The cycle 2020/2021 remains from October 2020 to the date of the WCCC 2021
  • Roland Ott will act as director of the cycle 2020/2021 with Axel Steinbrink and Marek Kolčák as assistant directors
